This past year’s HGTV Green Home was located in a planned community to take advantage of nearby shops and green space. The 2011 home is currently under construction in the Denver neighborhood of Stapleton. Known as Denver’s sustainable community, Stapleton is a brownfield development, built on the site of the Denver’s former airport. Like many other communities designed and built in the past 20 years, Stapleton boasts shopping, dining, walkable neighborhoods, and greenways – paths for pedestrians linking various sectors of the community that do not compete with vehicular traffic.
Located across the street from the community’s largest park, appropriately named Central Park, the green home is situated just north of the open space. Although the sweepstakes to win the home have not begun, anyone can enter online once a day as soon as the process begins. HGTV typically opens the contest early in the calendar year (i.e. 2011).
