Recent storms in the DC metro area have once again rendered the grid weak and response to blackouts inadequate. This doesn’t happen in countries such as Japan where electricity rates are higher but power companies respond quickly to any downed trees or disruptions in service. That begs the question, would you pay higher rates in order to update and maintain the grid, have enough staff to respond to outages, and not be stuck for days without power?
