Machja Aims to Become an Eco-fashion Pioneer

From the fashionably famous French comes Machja, a creator of chic and casual clothes for men and women (catalogs can be found here). From their sales pitch, “Machja, an online fair-trade shop, offers a wide range of organic clothing for men, women and kids: jeans, pants, skirts, tops, shirts, lingerie, pajamas, leggings, dresses. Discover an ethical and green clothing line made of 100% organic cotton and silk.” Here’s their back story:

Catherine Soundirarassou and Jean-Louis Rossi, the founders of Machja, were both executives with Parisian firms before they made a career change to align more completely with their ethical values. Complying with Fair Trade principles, participating in sustainable development, and designing affordable, quality organic clothing were some of the challenges that Machja overcame before relocating to the Ile de Beauté, in the city of Bastia, Corsica, with the determination to help revitalize the island economy. The Corsican ready-to-wear brand has grown steadily and successfully well since its inception in 2005, as its partnerships with ethical workshops have strengthened. Motivated by a true desire to design green, chic and ethical pieces, the Machja team is dedicated to achieving full client satisfaction.

Third party certification would help validate their claims but the company seems genuinely interested in making fashionable clothes that are also easier on the environment. We wanted to at least introduce them to you so you are aware and can look into the company on your own. We’ve been communicating with the company and will let you know if we learn anything else of note.
