Some 2.4 billion pounds of plastic bottles were recycled in the U.S. in 2008, according to a joint report by the American Chemistry Council and the Association of Post-consumer Plastic Recyclers. That’s a record, as is the percentage of bottles being recycled in the U.S. About 27% of all the milk jugs and soda bottles on store shelves eventually end up being recycled; those containers account for 99% of all plastic-bottle recycling.
