I thought about how the same idea could easily be applied to office buildings. As I was walking to work the other day, there was an employee watering the flowers around the trees along the sidewalk near my office building. With an enormous roof area, even collecting just some of the rain water that falls on their roofs could be an easy way for property managers to show off their green credentials while saving money on their water bills.

Harold,

Thank you for your post. Rain water capture, which I wrote about in an earlier post (http://2ndgreenrevolution.com/2009/06/30/developing-sustainably-2-case-studies-in-portland-or/), has many additional benefits, including reduced runoff and erosion during heavy rains, as well as lower water consumption and utility bills.
