For those of you in the Washington, D.C. metro region, this weekend brings a good chance to visit solar homes and buildings in the area. The 19th Annual Solar Tour runs from 11a.m. to 5p.m. on October 3rd and 4th. The homes and buildings are scattered throughout Maryland, Virginia, and the District and will provide opportunities to see a “remarkable variety of solar design, technology and sustainable living concepts illustrated in over 70 homes.” For those of you thinking about installing solar systems or just interested in learning about the technology, it could be a nice way to spend a few hours on a pleasant fall day. According to the website:
The 2009 Tour of Solar Homes and Buildings … has a variety of unique educational opportunities to put a true environmental “spin” on your experience. All the solar tour homes will be listed in your tour guide. Your tour guide will be both your map and “passport” to gain entry to the sites on the tour. The guide will have descriptions, features and directions to each home as well as helpful information on installing a system in your home.
Print out your guide here for free. You can also pick up a copy at these locations for $5. While we should make it to a few houses, let us know if you come across anything worth pointing out.
