Hara Software Offers Energy Savings for Businesses

Earlier this summer California based Hara Software, backed by venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers, began a full-court press of sorts in an attempt to push its efficiency software. According to their website, “Hara Environmental and Energy Management (EEM) on-demand software enables organizations to identify and implement sustainability initiatives across stakeholders to increase operational efficiency, maximize shareholder value and mitigate risk.” Since their emergence at the beginning of June, Hara has been all over the news and even to the White House. Chief Executive Officer Amit Chatterjee met with President Obama and Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during the White House’s “jobs and energy innovation” summit. Video of the president’s remarks can be seen below:

Among the company’s clients are soft drink maker Coca-Cola. Bryan Jacob, Coca-Cola’s director of energy management and climate protection is quoted on Hara’s customer’s page.

“Effective environmental management requires good insight, good analysis and good data. We have been pleased to collaborate with Hara in the development of its Environmental and Energy Management solution — an application that combines data collection with mitigation planning and initiative tracking in a comprehensive package that enables us to improve energy efficiency and environmental impact.”

On the site, Hara claims that their EEM solutions help companies integrate sustainable practices, allowing organizations to “grow and profit while optimizing their natural resource consumption.” Furthermore, “HaraTM Environmental and Energy Management (Hara EEM) gives organizations auditable transparency and control of their “organizational metabolism” — the collective resources consumed and expended by an organization — including energy, water, waste, carbon and other natural resources.”

These organizations span a variety of industries, including:

  • Aerospace & Defense
  • Chemicals
  • Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG)
  • Financial Services
  • High Technology & Electronics
  • Industrial Manufacturing
  • Life Sciences
  • Media & Entertainment
  • Municipalities and Universities
  • Natural Resources
  • Oil & Gas
  • Retail
  • Transportation & Travel
  • Utilities & Power

Hara has also included a case study from their work with Palo Alto, California, which “expects to save more than $2M and cut its greenhouse gases by 15% over the next three years” by using the EEM software.

Innovative solutions to today’s over consumption of energy may hold the answer to reducing non-renewable sources of fuel. Perhaps technology holds the key to major reductions. Projects like Xcel Energy’s SmartGridCity and Hara’s software may indeed lead the way.
