The Washington Post says that GM’s plug-in electric car, the Volt, will arrive in Washington D.C. and San Francisco by late 2010. The company is currently seeking infrastructure and policy support to make buyer’s transition from gas to electric more attractive and convenient. Plug-in stations at work or access to car-pool lanes would make the pricey car more appealing. Both cities boast relatively high concentrations of wealthy people who could afford the Volt. Both areas also have high concentrations of influential people and are seats of government, two factors that are important in building a new industry.
